The Violet Crown Festival is ON!

Thanks to the generous response from volunteers and sponsors, the spring Violet Crown Festival is coming up on Saturday, May 8, 2010, 11-6, in Brentwood Park, 6710 Arroyo Seco, 78757. Admission is free. Information on the festival is available at www.violetcrowncommunity.org
Proceeds will help support projects of the Friends of Brentwood Park, Brentwood and Crestview neighborhood volunteers dedicated to maintaining the park and helping continue to develop it as a community resource. The group already has made an impact after several work days in the park and is making plans for more enhancements.
This spring’s festival is the 10th neighborhood event Violet Crown Community Works has coordinated since 2003. The event again will showcase the best of local music, food, and arts; neighborhood history; community resources; and family activities.
Local community and church groups are invited to sponsor a family activity and have an information table. Local artists can reserve a booth, and area health/wellness providers can reserve space for demonstrations. Volunteers who can devote two hours the day of the festival also are encouraged to participate. Responsible young people are welcome and the work will count toward community service hours.
Stop by the Welcome Tent to learn more about the ongoing contributions of the Brentwood and Crestview neighborhood associations, North Central Caregivers, and others. Visit the Gratitude Book Project table, where you can add your handwritten thanks to our local fire, police, and EMS departments for their service to our community. The messages later will be bound into handmade books and presented to the groups.
Check out our new website at violetcrowncommunity.org! There, you’ll find more information about becoming a sponsor, reserving an art or health/wellness booth, and other projects VCCW has helped support.
Major sponsors of this spring’s event include Amy’s Ice Creams, Grande Communications, the Pilates Center of Austin, and Sweet Leaf Tea. Additional sponsors include Barnstormers Studio, Burnet Road Storage, Crestview Minimax IGA, HEB, John Dunham/Juice Homes, L Style G Style magazine, and Rose & Associates Properties. Special thanks to Friends of Brentwood Park for volunteering to help with this spring’s festival.
