Public Feedback Sought on Project Connect:
Central Corridor Transportation Options
The Project Connect: Central Corridor High-Capacity Transit study is kicking off with a series of public meetings, beginning September 25th. The public is encouraged to weigh in on the first of two important decisions during the course of the Central Corridor study – “Where are we going with the next regional investment in high-capacity transit?”.
The Central Corridor study area is loosely bound by Ranch-to-Market 2222 to the North, Oltorf to the South, Springdale/Grove to the East and MoPac to the West.
Home to such attractions as the Capitol Complex, The University of Texas (including Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium and the Frank Erwin Center), Downtown Austin, Lady Bird Lake, the future UT-Dell Medical School and special large-scale events including SXSW and the Austin City Limits Music Festival, the Central Corridor is the major employment and entertainment destination for the region.
Approximately 269,000 commuter trips are made into the Central Corridor each weekday, with an additional 47,000 commuter trips taking place within the corridor itself. Presently, 197,000 employees (23% of the entire Central Texas region workforce) work within this area. Austin currently ranks as the fourth most congested metropolitan area in the United States and the 12th most congested in the world.
The input received by the Project Connect: Central Corridor team will lay the groundwork for selecting our region’s next transit high-capacity transit investment. Feedback is encouraged at the following public involvement opportunities:
