Thursday June 15, 2006 Little Walnut Creek Library 835 West Rundberg Lane
Greetings & Introductions: The meeting was called to order at 7:02pm by Linda Moore. Announcements:
Brian LaCour stated that we have $9,922.18 in the NACA bank account of which $5,789.30 is from the Allied Waste/BFI funds which is used exclusively for neighborhood beautification projects. More “Yard of the Month” signs have been purchased. NACA is researching using beautification funds for additional garbage cans and for concrete fencing to replace dilapidated wood fencing in various areas.
The next NACA garage sale will occur on Saturday, June 17th from 8am to 1pm at Brian and Gina Almon’s house located on 9502 Stonebridge, which is right next to the clock tower. Please bring any items that you would like to contribute to the sale.
Molly Scarbrough stated that a neighborhood planning process and workshop to address the interaction between land use, urban design and transportation in the North Burnet/Gateway area is scheduled on July 6th, 8th and 13th at the Holiday Inn on 8901 Business Park Drive. A consultant has been hired. She asked for participation from NACA in this planning process. If anyone is interested, contact Molly at 974-3515 or at [email protected].
APD Officer Dale Cooper discussed the American Heroes Project. America’s Heroes is a 501 (c) (3) non profit organization to provide home furnishings to families in need who have been referred by public safety first responders (fire, paramedics and police). Those in need are asked to fill out a form for any household item. This project attempts to source those items to those families. If you know of items that would be available let a first responder know. Storage space is needed for the items that are acquired. They don’t take a lot of used items. They will take new or “gently used” home furnishing items. Toys and clothing are not needed. Canned goods are not needed. Linens, dishes are requested.
Deborah Cooper discussed the Blue Santa Project for 2006. July 15th at Waterloo Park, a family fun and safety day will be held. Bring your used toys to that event to help with this years toy drive. The event is from 10am to 2pm. All concessions will donated to Blue Santa.
The next APD Commanders Forum for IDA Sector is July 11th at Barrington Elementary at 7pm.
You can now use 311 option 2 to report Code Violations. This is preferred because a case number will be issued and can be tracked more quickly. Seven more code inspectors have been hired in the City of Austin.
Program: Andy Pastor with Endeavor Real Estate, Presentation on The Domain
Endeavor Real Estate originated in 1999 with the goal of development of new office and retail projects. They are currently involved in developing the South Park Meadows retail project.
The Domain was formerly part of the IBM campus which encompassed Braker Lane, Mopac and Burnet Road. This site is unique in the amount of traffic and there is currently no large retail sites in this area.
They want to create a lifestyle center which is pedestrian oriented and friendly with extra wide sidewalks and bike racks. The goal is to have a place where you live, work and play etc. This would be a little city or domain just like the “Arboretum”.
Neiman Marcus and Macy’s will be tenants and Simon Properties is attempting to get the other mall tenants for the middle market component.
The Domain Crossing will bring in a movie theater and a sporting good store to complement the middle market component. The Endeavor site will develop multi family and office center. A 9 acre park is planned for this area in the middle of the project. Smaller pocket parks will be developed.
There are no plans for a school. They are researching affordable housing being available. March or April of 2007 will be the opening of the retail centers. South of Braker, formerly Hank Haney Driving Range will be occupied by a Home Depot. No major realignment of the streets is planned.
Transportation accommodation; a Cap Metro rail station is being pursed for this project. Next Meeting: In August at 7:00pm at Little Walnut Creek Library Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:05pm
