We are pleased to announce the second year of Austin’s “CityWorks Academy ” program!
In the program’s inaugural year, we received more than 300 applications for the program’s 30 spots. Here’s just some of the great feedback from our first academy participants:
The CityWorks Academy provided a wonderful opportunity as someone who is interested in what’s going on with the City,” Cookie Ruiz said, to “learn about the City departments themselves, how each of them work, the best contacts to reach, and to really understand how the various departments work together.”
Ted Hadzi-Antich said the sessions personalized City government: “The biggest benefit that I derived from participating in this program is learning that folks that help run the City actually genuinely care about the city and are no different from residents like me,” he said.
We would like to personally invite you to apply to participate in this year’s CityWorks Academy program – or to pass this invitation on to other community members who may have an interest.
CityWorks Academy is a unique opportunity for you to learn about Austin City government’s many programs and services, directly from the people who manage and deliver them. You’ll have the chance to learn the “A to Z” of City operations in 11 weekly interactive and informative sessions designed to give you a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at City Hall. These sessions will be led by Executive Team members, Department Directors and other City staff who will share information about the City’s operations and discuss key issues facing our community.
Our first CityWorks Academy class this year will be on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010. The weekly sessions will be on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 at various City facilities. The application deadline is July 31, 2010. We encourage you to please either fill out the attached application or apply online at www.cityofaustin.org/cityworks. CityWorks Academy is one more way that your Austin City Council and City Management team are working to open the doors of City Hall to you, and all Austin residents. Through this annual program, we hope to help provide you with the knowledge and insight to be an even more informed and effective community leader.
