Also, there is another event for all homeless individuals: Homeless Resource Fair.  Saturday, Nov. 5, 9AM-3PM, Pan Am Recreation Center, 2100 E. 3^rd.  This event needs volunteers and donations, so if you’re interested in helping or if you know of people who might interested in helping, go to www.austinecho.org, scroll down and on the left hand side, click on Homeless Resource Fair.  That page will tell you everything you need to know about the HRF.  You can register to volunteer through that page.
Also, if you’re interested in the 100 Homes Campaign, ECHO’s initiative to help the 100 most vulnerable chronically homeless individuals get off the streets (the first in an ongoing series of initiatives to help the homeless become housed), go to the same website, click on the 100 Homes icon (on the left hand side), and the page will give you all the information you need.
By the way, ECHO (Ending Community Homelessness) is an Austin-based, nonprofit coalition of the major, respected (as in, can be held accountable, proven track record), primary homeless service providers and governmental agencies who work with the homeless.  The information on its website will provide a lot of fact-based information about the diversity and complexity of homelessness and what is being done locally and nationally about it.
