The Restore Rundberg Team met in a community meeting on May 22nd. Chairperson Saenz announced at the recommendation of the City Legal Department that no council campaigning will be allowed at the Restore Rundberg meetings. Commander Baker stated that no applicants qualified for the two part-time positions (Community Engagement Specialist and Administrative support). Both positions have been reposted and previous applicants must reapply if interested.
A fifth top priority was approved by the Team. It will address the homelessness and prostitution in the Restore Rundberg area.
APD reported that the Mobile Walking Beat, which is operating with 52 officers trained to conduct community engagement, made contact with 1,972 individuals and distributed 1,137 community flyers. The majority of those contacted were Hispanic and under the age of 31. The major concerns addressed by those contacted included drug dealing, drug usage, crime (general) and prostitution.
A report was given for each of the top four priorities of the Team. Generally, the workgroups are still making contact with appropriate agencies and collecting data on needs and resources.
Presentations were made by U.S. Baha’i Community, Austin Community Tree Program and the Brownfield Area-wide Planning.
The next Revitalization Team meeting will by June 12th at GAMA, 8801 Research Blvd starting at 7 p.m.
The next community meeting will be June 26th at Holy Word Lutheran Church, 10601 Bluff Bend Dr. starting at 7 p.m. All are welcome at both meetings.
