NACA MONTHLY MEETING

Download Minutes Here: June 2021 NACA Meeting Minutes

Thursday, 17 June 2021

Virtual Meeting via Zoom

Introductions:

Matt Myers called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.

The following statement of Land Rights was read by President Matt Myers:

“The North Austin Civic Association (NACA) would like to acknowledge that the land boundaries of NACA are original territory of a number of Indigenous peoples–– specifically the Numunuu also known as Comanche Nation and the Tonkawa Tribe. We honor and thank the Indigenous peoples connected to this territory where we live and gather. NACA will work towards decolonizing our practices, and make our Civic Association an inclusive space for all.”

Treasurer’s Report

The General Fund contains $3,002.86 and there are currently 101 members. The Beautification Fund totals $13,199.79, with slightly more than $10,000 invested and $2,249.35.

Announcements

The Secretary position is still vacant, for anyone willing to take some simple bullet-point notes to stay in touch with our meetings.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Board asked that there be a more formal process for the formal naming of the park as “Heron Hollow.” That has concluded and the matter will be recommended to the City Council on July 29th.

The YMCA is happy to have us back for in-person monthly meetings, but staff leaves at 8 pm in the evening, so we would need to wrap up meetings promptly at 8. For August, the meeting plan is to have an APD district representative and code enforcement officer speak, possibly followed by an ice-cream social afterwards outdoors.

Jane Wilson, a long-time volunteer and NACA member passed away. She will be missed.

Allison Scharf reported on the successful clean-up along Rutland on July 12. For 2021–2022, we will resume in-person clean-ups with gathering for tacos afterwards at Taco More.

Approval of May 2021 Meeting Minutes

The May meeting minutes were approved by the membership.

Planning the Fall 2021 Membership Drive

Our goal is to try to add at least 50 members to reach 150. The NACA area is split into 5 sectors, and multiple sub-sectors within them.

First, we need volunteers to lead the sectors and then get sub-sector leaders and finally volunteers for each street. Recruiting more volunteers will have the beneficial effect of increasing involvement in NACA.

Plan is to have the flyers distributed to residences on the weekend of Friday October 8 through Sunday October 10. The following weekend, the 15th–17th, would be a back-up if needed, to complete the job.

Sector 1 Leader—Caro Dubois

Sector 2 Leader—Allison Scharf and Randy Teich

Sector 3 Leader—possibly David Davis, John Green, and/or Melinda Schiera with help from Martha Dyess

Sector 4 Leader—Jessica Rodriguez

Sector 5 Leader—Matt Myers

Flex position, helping out wherever needed—Mark Grayson

Jess Rodriguez will have a draft of the flyer in two weeks. We will try to print flyers in August for us to collate in September to be ready in October.

National Night Out, October 5, might be a good way to also meet people and speak to them about joining NACA.

Meeting adjourned at 7:59 pm by President Matt Myers.
